DC is forming a new Checkmate team to investigate the mysterious Leviathan. Event Leviathan: Checkmate, by the Event Leviathan creative team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev, is a six-issue miniseries that features Green Arrow, The Question, Lois Lane and Talia Al Ghul as the new Checkmate, a group of spies who come together to form the last line of defense against Leviathan.
A DC press release also teases the inclusion of a secret hero working from the shadows, who has the ability to tip the scales either in favor of our new Checkmate, or against the evil organization.
DC has even more Leviathan-themed one-shots and miniseries planned for the rest of the year. February sees the release of Leviathan Dawn, an oversized one-shot special that will serve as both an extended epilogue to the recently concluded crossover, but also serve as a fresh jumping-on point to the story for those that may have missed it.
"This is going to be kind of be what the format is for the Leviathan Saga moving forward," Bendis explained in an exclusive interview with CBR. "There's going to be specials and miniseries that connect to a larger story as it goes and fallout in the books themselves -- not just the ones I'm writing -- to other books with any character that showed up in Event Leviathan like Batgirl. The fallout will be felt in their books, too."
