Evan Peters will return as Quicksilver, one of the fastest mutants in Marvel Comics history, when X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters late next year, according to a report from Hollywood Reporter. Peters first portrayed Quicksilver in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and reprised the role in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016.
The character has garnered popularity in the X-Men film franchise for the highly choreographed scenes that showcase his super-speed powers. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, Quicksilver saved Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) from certain death when he used his powers to take down a room full of armed guards and divert their bullets. In X-Men: Apocalypse, Quicksilver saved most students in Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters after an explosion was triggered at its core.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will recount the events that turned the psychic mutant Jean Grey into the all-powerful creature Phoenix, as portrayed in the Dark Phoenix Saga comic book arc that ran from January to October in 1980. The film will begin production in Montreal this week.
It was also announced today that Lamar Johnson, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts award-winning actor best known for his role on The Next Step, will join the cast in a yet-disclosed role.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is a production of 20th Century Fox directed by Simon Kinberg and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Lamar Johnson.
