Between roles in Casino Royale and Kingdom of Heaven, Eva Green has played some pretty tough women. While her upcoming role as Angelique Bouchard in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows flexes a few different muscles, she’ll return to the realm of ass-kicking ladies in Noam Murro’s follow-up to 300, which may or may not be subtitled Battle of Artemisia.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Green dropped a few hints about her character Artemisia, noting that the character is based on an person from history. “She’s a commander of the Persian armada,” she said. “So she fights – she’s like a man.” The actress went on to say, “She’s another very, very strong woman that has some balls, that’s for sure.”
Directed by Murro from a script by 300 collaborators Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad, the follow-up initially was touted as a prequel based on Frank Miller’s forthcoming Dark Horse miniseries Xerxes, which takes place 10 years before Thermopylae. However, there are now indications that the film is neither a prequel nor a sequel, and could instead chronicle the Battle of Artemisium, a series of naval engagements that took place simultaneously with the more famous Battle of Thermopylae depicted in 300. The film is set for an Aug. 2, 2013, release.
