Eva Green in Talks for 300 Prequel

Casino Royale actress Eva Green has begun negotiations to play the female lead in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ 300 prequel, now being called 300: Battle of Artemisium, Heat Vision reports.

Directed by Noam Murro, the film is based on Xerxes, the upcoming Dark Horse miniseries by 300 creator Frank Miller called “a sweeping tale with gods and warriors” that takes place 10 years before Thermopylae, beginning with the legendary Battle of Marathon. Miller has said the lead character is Themistocles, the legendary Athenian politician and general.

Green would play Artemisia, described as a ruthless, gold-covered goddess who persuades Xerxes I of Persia to assemble his forces and helps to lead them into battle against the Greeks. The studio has yet to find its male star.

Director Zack Snyder and 300 collaborator Kurt Johnstad wrote the screenplay for Battle of Artemisia, which will employ the same green-screen visual effects that helped to propel the 2007 film to a $456-million global box office.

Green, who’s also known for her roles in The Dreamers, Kingdom of Heaven and The Golden Compass, most recently appeared as Morgan Le Fay in the Camelot television series. She’ll next be seen in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows.
