Eva Green has been cast as Ava Lord in "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For."

As Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" heads to its October 4 release later this year, one of the major roles had yet to be filled: Ava Lord. Integral to the plot of "A Dame to Kill For," while numerous actresses -- including Angelina Jolie, Rose McGowan and Selma Hayek -- were previously rumored for the role, Variety reports "Casino Royale's" Eva Green will step in as Ava, joining "Sin City" newcomers Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Jamie Chung, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta and Dennis Haysbert alongside returning stars Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Michael Masden and more.

"We've been wanting to tell this story for a very long time. Ava Lord is one of the most deadly and fascinating residents of Sin City," Rodriguez and Miller said in a joint statement. "From the start, we knew that the actor would need to be able to embody the multifaceted characteristics of this femme fatale and we found that in Eva Green. We are ecstatic that Eva is joining us."

In Miller's original "A Dame to Kill For" story, Ava Lord was the central figure of the story, manipulating her ex-boyfriend Dwight for her own personal gain. In Miller's "Sin City" graphic novel, the story takes place nearly four years after John Hartigan's release from prison in "That Yellow Bastard" -- a sequence included in the first "Sin City" film.

"Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" hits theaters October 4.
