Alicization is one of the better arcs in the Sword Art Online anime, right up there with Aincrad. Both Alice and Eugeo were well-crafted characters that had their own character moments, not always playing second fiddle to Kirito as is often the case with secondary characters. Eugeo got a very fitting end for his character as well.

Despite how good he was, the character was far from flawless. As is often the case with Sword Art Online, there are moments that don't make a whole lot of sense, leaving the viewer scratching their head.

10 Lacking Resolve To Save Alice When They Were Younger

For a character as empathetic as Eugeo was, it never made sense that he wouldn't have any desire to go save his friend Alice. They were the best of friends, someone Eugeo held onto dearly, yet, Eugeo let her get taken away without lifting a finger.

Instead, he focused on his task of felling the Gigas Cedar for six years. It's understandable that he didn't want to break the law, his seal helping that thought process, but to completely shut her out of his life for that long felt out of character for him.

9 The Ease With Which He Picked Up Swordsmanship

Prodigies are always going to exist, Kirito being an example of that, but Eugeo picked up his sword skills relatively fast. All he needed was Kirito's arrival and a little training from his friend.

By the second day of their training, Eugeo could already use a Horizontal Sword Skill, allowing him to cut down the Gigas Cedar in five days. That wasn't the end of it either. The two eventually joined the Sword Mastery Academy, earning top marks there.

8 Wanting to Be A Swordsman Despite His Fear In The Face Of Danger

Bravery was never Eugeo's strength, as shown when he and Kirito ran into the goblins. He was frozen in fear when he saw the goblins pushing towards him after he stupidly yelled out Selka's name. Outside of taking a blow for Kirito, he did very little in the fight.

Why then did he want to get into a profession that would throw him right into the fray? It ended up leading to some good character development, but his track record never pointed to him being competent as a guard, much less a knight.

7 The Brutality He Used Against Humbert

Everything Eugeo did to Humbert was more than earned. Both he and Raios were some of the most reprehensible characters in the entire series, let alone the Alicization arc. They were pompous, full of themselves, and sadistically torturing Eugeo's mentor at the time.

The anger at that moment allowed him to override the seal in his eye. It also had him show a shocking amount of brutality when he cut Humbert's arm off, something that is hard to believe from Eugeo, even in the heat of the moment.

6 Agreeing To Escape Prison With Kirito

A lot had been thrown at Eugeo in a very short time. He'd broken the seal on his eye, killed a man, and been arrested by his old friend, Alice. His entire mind had been thrown into a loop at the time, needing someone to help guide him through it all.

That person ended up being Kirito, leading to their escape from prison and eventually the decision to try to regain Alice's memories. It's still strange that a man that was so compliant earlier on was now on board with anything Kirito wanted to do.

5 Trying To Kill Deusolbert Despite Knowing Integrity Knights Lost Their Memory

In the heat of the moment, Eugeo trying to kill Deusolbert in cold blood made sense. Who wouldn't be upset at the man that took away your best friend and helped turn her into the husks that were the Integrity Knights?

The issue with it is that he was the very same husk, a man who'd been stripped of everything he once was, a fact that Eugeo was well aware of. It never made sense that he was suddenly this bloodthirsty killer either, feeling way out of character.

4 The Fact He Defeated Bercouli, Even If The Latter Wasn't Fully Trying

Most of Eugeo's fights were well balanced and enjoyable to watch, avoiding the head-scratching moments that at times plague Kirito's final conflicts. His battle with Bercouli is the lone exception to that, as Eugeo had no business winning the fight, even if the oldest Integrity Knight wasn't going all out.

Bercouli is the strongest of the Knights, and it isn't even close, yet, he somehow lost to the same Eugeo who had his rear handed to him by Alice? While the fight is enjoyable, it never should have played out the way it did.

3 Submitting To Quinella's Manipulation

Fighting against Quinella's manipulation can be difficult, especially once she's able to touch you as she was able to with Eugeo. It would have been no small feat for Eugeo to pull himself away, but he should have at the very least tried to pull away.

After everything he'd been through up until that point, to have him submit to her felt off, even with her tweaking with his memories already. He even had a voice telling him to get away, yet, he ignored it.

2 The Ease With Which He Remembered Who He Was

For as confusing as his submission to Quinella was, so too was how quickly he snapped out of it. His entire transformation into an Integrity Knight felt rushed as a result.

He was barely ever one, giving a brief glimpse of how strong he could be before he ends up getting killed off in the final battle. Every other knight took a bit of time to fully remember who they were, but it only took Eugeo a little skirmish with Kirito before he was back to himself.

1 Eugeo Rushing Off To Attack By Himself Multiple Times In The Final Fight

Eugeo's angelic smile

As the Alicization arc carries on, Eugeo's need to protect his friends becomes more and more prevalent. He's willing to do whatever it takes to protect them, even turning into a giant sword to defeat the sword golem.

However, this need went a little too far as he attacked Quinella by himself on two separate occasions. Once while he was an Integrity Knight and a second time as the sword. Both times were unsurprisingly failures. It makes sense that he wanted to protect others, but he should have known they were stronger together.
