The Eternals may have just made their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, but the film's screenwriters are already thinking about what to pit the pantheon of heroes up against next, with writer Kaz Firpo having one particular world-eater in mind.

While discussing what Celestial threat the Eternals may be faced with next during a recent interview with The Direct, Firpo specifically named the Devourer of Worlds himself, Galactus, as the yet-to-be-announced sequel's potential villain. "Galactus is an amazing, amazing character, and villain," Firpo said. "We are, you know, obviously setting the stage for intergalactic, cosmic, megalith confrontations, especially when you kill a space god—and then the space god comes and kidnaps you and plans to judge Earth, I think the door is very much open for world-eating villains."

Though Firpo expressed his excitement toward the possibility of bringing Galactus into the MCU, the writer noted nothing is currently set in stone for the franchise's future entries. "There’s definitely conversations about these post-credits sequences, about who we’re introducing, where we’re going," he explained. "Galactus is one of those iconic figures of the Marvel Universe that we’re excited to see. But sometimes I think you leave yourself open, you leave these doors open, and who knows what’s happening in number two. Maybe you’re too busy saving a Celestial from Galactus that you end up incurring his [wrath]… anything’s possible."

With conversations taking place and ideas floating around about who'll oppose the Eternals in a sequel, Firpo mentioned that it will ultimately be the fans who decide whether Galactus is the one to rear his planet-sized head. "You know we don’t know where we’re going to go in number 2 yet," the writer said, "but if audiences want to see it, we’re excited to explore it."

Despite recent comments from Eternals producer Nate Moore where he expressed the lack of plans in place for a series, it appears as though a sequel and potential trilogy may be on the horizon. As suggested by the film's cliffhanger ending, Firpo noted the possibility of exploring the Eternals further in not only one but two more films. "I think it's just an incredibly rich universe, for which there's just so much more," Firpo said during an interview with CBR. "Yeah, if we're lucky, it'll be a trilogy of very special stories."

Eternals is now in theaters.
