If you thought Thanos was the most dangerous of Marvel's Eternals -- think again.

Marvel Comics has released an official preview for Eternals: The Heretic, a new one-shot set to hit comic shops this coming Wednesday, March 16, from writer Kieron Gillen, artists Ryan Bodenheim and Edgar Salazar, colorist Chris O'Halloran and letterer Clayton Cowles. It features a main cover by Andrea Sorrentino, as well as a variant cover by Phil Noto.

"Thanos is now ruler of the Eternals! But believe it or not… he's actually not the worst leader that the Eternals' society has ever seen," the comic's official synopsis reads. "No, that honor belongs to someone even more horrific. Thanos is evil, yes, but who was the original evil from whom all Eternal evils descend? Meet Uranos, the Undying. And may the Celestials have mercy on your souls."

The preview sees Thanos come face-to-face with Uranos, who is quick to chastise the Mad Titan for using a half measure and only killing half the universe with the power of the Infinity Gauntlet. "Fifty percent? What a lack of commitment," Uranos says. "Do something or don't do it."

Uranos, of course, refers to the events of 1991's Infinity Gauntlet #1, in which Thanos snaps his fingers and wipes out half of all life in the universe in an attempt to win the affection of Death. The infamous snap was depicted in the 2018 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Avengers: Infinity War, albeit with Thanos' motivations being changed.

In Marvel's comic book universe, Thanos is an Eternal and the brother of Eros, aka Starfox. Thanos came about after two Eternals conceived a child, which is a forbidden act, resulting in the Mad Titan becoming host to the Deviant gene and having an altered appearance. That being said, the MCU's version of Thanos does not appear to be an Eternal, despite his familial relationship to Eros remaining intact.
