With the release of Eternals, The Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced audiences to a dozen new characters. However, there could have been more. There are hundreds of Eternals with thousands of years of history between them – though not all of them named or given extensive backstories in Marvel Comics. Consequently, there are a number of other characters who could have appeared on the big screen for the first live-action adaptation of Eternals.

Director Chloé Zhao confirmed she originally wanted two more Eternals in the script. However, they were cut to give a larger focus on the ten who do appear in the movie. If there is a sequel, Marvel Comics has several great contenders for future storylines.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Eternals.

10 Kronos Is A First Generation Eternal

Kronos Is An Eternal

If Eternals didn't spend so much time chronicling the journeys of the Eternals on Earth, it might have included some first-generation Eternals. That's right, Ajak and the team fans know from the movie aren't the first generation. The first generation includes Kronos, so named because he's associated with the Greek god of the same name (as many of the Eternals are). He's got the same super strength, speed, durability, and stamina as other Eternals, but more cosmic power than all of them.

Comparatively, Kronos has the same level of cosmic power that Uatu the Watcher has, and he's also able to affect timelines and commune with the dead. If an Eternal of his power level appeared, the movie could have explored the connection the group has to Greek mythology or shown Sersi exactly how the Eternals came to be. Instead, she was left to rely on Arishem sharing information.

9 Aurelle Is One Of The Few Female Eternals

Aurelle as a being of pure energy in Marvel comics

One of the best changes the writing team behind Eternals made was turning Makkari and Ajak into women. In Marvel Comics, there's a huge imbalance between male and female characters amongst the Eternals. Although the modern take on Eternals reveals they can resurrect as any gender, most of their comic book counterparts are male.

A good contender for another female team member is Aurelle. While audiences saw Sersi manipulate matter in the movie, Aurelle is able to manipulate pure energy in the comics. She can change her atoms into fire or electricity and manipulate matter at will. That kind of power on-screen would have been interesting to see.

8 Uranos Lived For Conflict

A split image depicts Uranus speaking and on his throne in Marvel comics

Kronos isn't the only first-generation Eternal who would have made a fun addition to the MCU. In the movie, the Eternals are largely in the dark about their origins and their planet, in the same way they are in the comics (until a more recent retcon of their immortality). Uranos is from the early days of the Eternals comics. The brother of Kronos, he was a cruel leader and responsible for a schism between the group.

In fact, Uranos was responsible for most of the bloody history on Titan (where Thanos was raised). In the end, he led his followers into a civil war that caused his death. While his exact comic book history wouldn't be worth bringing to the big screen, the idea of an ancient schism between groups of Eternals is interesting, especially considering how Starfox revealed the existence of more Eternals in other areas of the universe.

7 Valkin Has Family In Eternals

Valkin from Eternals

An interesting aspect of the MCU's Eternals is how no one questions where they came from. They only find out when Sersi reveals how they were all created by Celestials. There's no talk of their families before coming to Earth, just their mission. If there had been, the audience might have at least heard a mention of Valkin.

In the comics, Valkin is Druig's father and the leader of an Eternals faction. He's so popular, other Eternals want him to be their leader at one point. His life on earth consisted of him blending in with humans during the days of the Soviet Union. He also adopts Ikaris, his nephew, after his father dies, which gives him a valuable connection to multiple characters in Eternals.

6 El Vampiro Only Appears In Four Comics

El Vampiro is an Eternal in Marvel comics

There's a joke in Eternals where Karun thinks Kingo is a vampire. Consequently, it would have been fitting to see an Eternal who actually used the guise of a vampire in the movie. El Vampiro is the stage name of a wrestler in the comics who also happens to be an Eternal. His real name has never been revealed and he's only appeared in a handful of books, which makes him easy to adapt on-screen.

El Vampiro has teeth that resemble fangs and the ability to fly, so it's easy to see why he chose a vampire as his wrestling persona. He's married, has a human family, and has a lot in common with both Phastos and Kingo, meaning he appreciates humanity and Earth. As a result, he'd be a great addition to the group.

5 Sui-San Is Thanos' Mother

Sui-San after giving birth to Thanos in Marvel comics

If the likes of Uranos made it into the Eternals movie, it would be fitting for Sui-San to make it as well. She was originally written as one of Uranos' followers on Titan – and one of the only survivors of the conflict there. Sui-San also happens to be Thanos' mother. If Eternals had explored the group's potential connection to Thanos, Sui-San's story would also need to be told.

A miniseries about Thanos revealed how his mother sensed evil in him as soon as he was born. She wanted to get rid of him, but her husband wouldn't let her. Eventually, Thanos proved her right when he brought war to Titan and dissected her while she was still alive.

4 Jack Of Knives Is A New Eternal

Jack Of Knives in Eternals

Jack of Knives is one of the newest Eternals in Marvel Comics, having made his comic book debut in 2021. Not much is known about him just yet, and he likely wouldn't have been developed long enough for scriptwriters to consider him for a movie appearance. However, if he was included, he'd have made an interesting addition.

Unlike a lot of Eternals in the comics, Jack of Knives isn't known for his connection to Greek mythology or being in a cosmic war. Instead, he's a crime lord, which is one way to pass the time when you know you're going to live forever. That said, his alternative perspective would have shaken things up somewhat.

3 Daina Creates Prophecies

Daina in Eternals Thanos Rising

Daina isn't a new Eternal, but she is new to the comics. She was first mentioned in one of the many volumes of Marvel Universe Handbooks, but didn't make an appearance in an actual comic book story until Eternals: Thanos Rising in 2021.

Daina is Thanos' grandmother, but that's not what makes her interesting. She was part of a trio of Eternals similar to the Fates of Greek myth. They were responsible for studying the past, present, and future timelines to act as advisors to the Eternals, creating prophecies along the way that could shape decisions made by the elders. Would the Eternals in the MCU have acted differently if they were given prophecies to study?

2 Pixie Joins The Superheroes

Pixie yells at the other Eternals in Marvel comics

While numerous Eternals have allied with the Avengers over the years, Pixie joined a lesser-known superhero team called First Line. They're meant to defend the Earth from alien threats, an act that gets most of Pixie's team killed, but her decisions and personality would make an interesting addition to Eternals.

Pixie isn't content hiding in the shadows of humanity. She seeks adventure and wants to experience life among people, much like Sersi and Kingo. To satisfy this urge, she finds the superhero team First Line and offers to join them. If audiences discovered an existing MCU hero was actually an Eternal, it would have made a great reveal.

1 Legba Has Some Famous Friends

Legba in the 2008 Eternals comic book series

Another newer addition to the Eternals in Marvel Comics is Legba. He was introduced through the 2008 Eternals series. He's one of the few Eternals to embrace the fun of having an immortal life.

Legba partied with Roman emperors and had chats with writer Mark Twain. He's a frequent ally of Drug, and someone who's spent extensive time in Madripoor – a location only recently introduced to the MCU. Legba is frequently caught up in the civil unrest among the Eternals in his appearances, and it would have been interesting to see which side of the MCU movie conflict he fell on.
