A good elevator pitch for  Sersi, The Eternals' matter-manipulating attitudinal force, might be that she's the one that's fun to talk to at parties. Where the rest of her family is pretty stiff in the traditional superhuman God-being sense, Sersi drinks vodka martinis, which is pretty much the most laid back thing you can do.

Sersi's story in the Marvel comic book history is one of constant struggle and loss, but it's the unique way that she handles being an Eternal that has allowed her to persevere. Read on to learn some more about this unique character: not just what she's done, but who she is.

10 She's a New Yorker

A transplant sure, but from her first appearance through her tenure as an Avenger, Sersi has proven that she has something to offer as one of the thousands of heroes that occupy the city at a given time. With Avengers: Infinity War just beginning to bridge the gap between the cosmic and street-level MCU stories, Sersi may be an important piece in developing how the MCU presents itself, and by extension how we see it.

9 She’s Never Had a Solo Series

Though there are a few reasons to suspect that that might change soon. With characters like Death’s Head recently getting books despite no publicly known plans to incorporate them into the MCU, Marvel is clearly not averse to publishing titles that for a lot of people are pretty deep cuts.

Consider too how the publisher has been putting out titles like Asgardians of the Galaxy, which focuses on stories well beyond anything likely to be shown in the MCU, and a solo series about a member of a group with such potential importance to the MCU’s Phase 4 seems entirely in the question.

8 She's The Youngest of the Bunch

From an archetypal standpoint, this might explain her brashness and affinity for parties, and with how unafraid the MCU has been in adapting works with a more eclectic tone faithfully, it's safe to say we'll be seeing the wild child that first premiered in Jack Kirby's story before we see the more complex, heavy-hearted character that recent stories have shaped Sersi into.

7 She Had a Relationship with The Black Knight

And true to the comic book soap opera form, it was by no means a cakewalk. Almost immediately after getting together, their union was tested by forces from a personal to even a cosmic level. These issues revolved mainly around an alternate-Universe version of The Black Knight known as The Proctor, and ended with Sersi downing the doppelganger with his own weapon.

Game of Thrones' Kit  Harrington will be playing The Black Knight in Marvel's The Eternals movie, but how much of this relationship will be developed in a film so packed with important characters remains to be seen.

6 She Might Be More Powerful Than Scarlet Witch

Though Wanda's powers in the MCU haven't really been adequately explained (The main takeaway from Maria Hill in Marvel's Age of Ultron is that she's simply "weird") comic fans who know both she and Sersi well can tell you that both are incredibly powerful matter-manipulators. We've seen Wanda use this power to an extent in the MCU, but with the introduction of Sersi, it's possible that matter-manipulation will play a bigger role in Phase 4.

5 She Chose Earth Over Her Own Family

When the other Eternals banded together to form the collective consciousness known as Uni-Mind, Sersi chose not to take part, leaving her career and status in New York undisturbed. Though she had formed Uni-Mind beforehand, this sacrifice outlines how much she cares for humanity, which may even be more than she cares for the other Eternals. And wouldn't that make for an interesting subplot around the time of Avengers 4 or 5?

4 She Lost Her Memory For a Time

It seems like it's a rite of passage for comic book characters to at some point experience amnesia. It allows them to grow by stripping them down then giving them a new appreciation for life once their memory is restored. During the fallout of Marvel's first Civil War event, Sersi took on a new life as a party planner with no prior memory of her heritage. This was eventually discovered to be a ploy by the trickster Eternal Sprite.

3 She Had Another Relationship, This Time With a Human

Dr. Samuel Holden was the anthropologist who introduced The Eternals to the world. Unlike The Black Knight, he had no powers or anything to offer Sersi beyond his dedication to her people. It's perhaps their shared appreciation for each others' cultures that allowed their union to blossom.

Overall, Sersi's relationship with Holden hasn't defined her character much, but it would be interesting to see this dynamic on screen.

2 She Even Dated Captain America

Though it was just one date, it's a pretty good example of Sersi's flirtatious side, which is often at the core of her character. When Cap enlisted her aid in their first-ever team-up, the date was the condition for her services. At the time it was a cute side-story but probably wouldn't translate well today, and that's okay. Marvel has shown that they have a dedication to keeping characters updated and relevant when adapting them to screen.

A lot of these Sersi facts seem to portray her as little more than a socialite and a flirt, but it was a different time, and it's more than likely that Marvel Studios will update her character to be more female-positive and multi-dimensional. For now. we can just think of stories like this in the context of what they could look like when they're retold.

1 Her Death Was Pretty Disturbing

Recently, comics have gotten a lot less gruesome. Also recently, a couple of Eternals took their own lives. Suicide is always a harder death to pull off against a generic killing. In comics, good kills evil and vice versa, but suicide is much deeper stuff. With Sersi's death only having happened in 2017's Marvel Legacy #1, it's curious that Marvel would announce an Eternals movie so soon. Certainly, it will be interesting to see how Marvel brings the character back closer to the film's release next year.
