The Eternals have a big year ahead of them. Not only will they be the focus of a Marvel Studios film in 2021, but they will also star in a new comic series from Kieron Gillen and Esad Ribic. Now, new variants have surfaced featuring the cosmic gods alongside other heroes.

The covers feature Phastos and Thor by Art Adams, and Ikaris and Captain Marvel taking flight by Jenny Frison. Rounding out the covers, a piece featuring Storm and Sersi by Khary Randolph, with the Thing and Thena battling a horde of rock monsters by Greg Land. Finally, former Eternals artist John Romita Jr. created a "Hidden Gem" cover featuring the Eternals locked in combat with their foes, the Deviants.

"They're literally angels. Especially since they're literally set against the Deviants, which are “demons.” So, that's my niche for the Eternals. They're the guardian angels of the planet, and they've been here for a very long time," Gillen told CBR in an interview about his approach to the book. He also discussed the rules that govern the Eternals, and how the Earth is a "great machine" they must protect from danger.

Written by Kieron Gillen and illustrated by Esad Ribic, Eternals #1 goes on sale Jan. 6, 2021 from Marvel.
