Eternals star Kit Harington discussed what it is that makes his character Dane Whitman/Black Knight such a vital part of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

While attending an Eternals press conference, Harington talked about what role he played in the movie. "I did the-- I feel in this I'm representing humanity," he began. "You know, it's -- it's me and Phastos' husband and kid who are representing humanity, and I felt that from the beginning, I had to represent something that was worth saving, maybe. And I think and hope that Dane comes across as a nice, standup guy.  And one thing I really respect him for is that a man flies out of the sky and shoots lasers out of his eyes and steals his girlfriend, and he's kinda cool with it."

Harington added that Eternals was "an odd movie for [him], because [he came] in at the start, and I don't think it's any spoiler to say this, I come in at the start and sort of, in some ways, intro the movie, and then the movie goes its own direction with these wonderful people and this wonderful cast. Um, so I felt separate from, but I think that the advantage of that is that you do have a glimpse into the humans at the start."

In regards to his future as Black Knight, Harington revealed earlier this year that he was unsure of Marvel Studios' plans for the character. "I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not," the actor commented. "I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!"

Adding to this, executive producer Nate Moore recently claimed that Harington may never actually become Black Knight in the MCU. "[Harington's] not going to be Black Knight necessarily," Moore said, "but that is something that we get to play with down the road."

As for the theatrical future of the Eternals themselves, Moore noted an Eternals trilogy is not a guarantee. "It’s not something that is a must-have," he stated. "Obviously, we have ideas of where we could go, but there isn’t a hard and fast rule where we have to have three of these things and this is the first."
