While parts of Eternals take place in the distant past, the majority of the film is set after the events of 2018's Avengers: Endgame. Hailing from the planet Olympia, the Eternals go to Earth to wipe out the Deviants, having been given that task by the Celestials. Eventually, they succeed and go their separate ways. However, after the reversal of the Blip, the Deviants return, precipitating an event that they must stop called the "Emergence." At the end of the film, Eros and Pip the Troll appear, offering their help to the remaining Eternals.

Created by Jim Starlin, Eros first appeared in 1973's Invincible Iron Man #55. The brother of Thanos, Eros is an Eternal with the ability to control the emotions of others. At this time, it's not clear just when Styles will reprise his role as Eros. However, Marvel Studios President Kevin Reige remarked in December that there are ideas for the Starfox, specifically in the MCU's cosmic realm.

Upon release, Eternals brought in $401.8 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $200 million. Although this is a rather low gross for an MCU film, Eternals came out during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eternals also did not release in China, which has, historically, been one of the biggest markets for films. There is also no indication Eternals will ever release in China. Still, Eternals box office may have been adversely affected by its critical reviews. Currently, Eternals has a 47 percent on Rotten Tomatoes among critics. Due to those negative reviews, Eternals is the first "Rotten" MCU film on the review aggregator.

Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals is available now on Disney+. The movie, which was written by Zhao, Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo, will release on home media on Feb. 15. A sequel to Eternals has not officially been confirmed. However, Chan has said Sersi in the film will almost certainly return at some point in the future.
