WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Eternals, now in theaters.

When Marvel announced the cast for Eternals, Game of Thrones lovers were excited at the prospect of seeing Kit Harington and Richard Madden appearing on screen together. That's because many loved their chemistry as Jon Snow and Robb Stark respectively, even though it was short-lived. However, while we do get that Stark family reunion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it leaves a lot to be desired, as it's too short with barely any emotional resonance.

The Starks are one of the most beloved pop culture families ever, as they're the most honorable folks in Westeros. That's why it broke fans when Robb was betrayed and killed at the Red Wedding, motivating Jon Snow even more because he knew Robb felt he could be great someday.

Come the first act of Eternals, the chance is there for them to become rivals more than brothers, but it ends up underwhelming, which is truly disappointing given how much gravitas both actors possess. It happens when Gemma Chan's Sersi romances Harington's Dane Whitman, her fellow teacher in London. It's revealed she and a "pilot" had a relationship a while back, and that pilot is Madden's Ikaris, one of the lead alien warriors.

They were madly in love, but the reason for him abandoning her is kept secret, which adds drama to when he does arrive minutes later as Sersi, Dane and Sprite are ambushed by a new breed of Deviant. Ikaris helps save the day with his heat vision, hugging Sprite and leading to an awkward yet tense moment as he looks at Sersi. Dane steps up, trying to size up Ikaris, but all that comes out is, "So you must be the pilot," as he dissects the couple's wistful stares.

Eternals then cuts to Sersi and Dane hashing out her true lineage, which ruins the comedic potential Madden and Harington could have had. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for some meta jokes, so it'd have been cool for Dane to joke that Ikaris reminds him of a brother or something of that nature.

Humor is valuable currency in these superhero movies, so it'd go a long way to servicing fans who couldn't see them fighting together on the TV and saving House Stark. As such, it botches the opportunity to leave a huge fan base in the entertainment industry laughing in their seats.

It'd also have been nice to see them doing more than just sizing up each other, maybe conversing a bit, with Ikaris poking fun at how desperate Dane is to move in. This would have thrown fans back to when Robb was eager for his matrimony only for Walder Frey to turn on them in the name of the Lannisters. Ultimately, with Dane relegated to mere minutes after this and both men not exchanging words, it's pretty anticlimactic after all the anticipation was built.

To see how the Stark brotherly reunion falls flat, Eternals is in theaters now.
