Barry Keoghan, who played Druig in 2021's Eternals, doesn't know if the Marvel Cinematic Universe film's sequel will ever be made.

In an interview with GQ, Keoghan addressed the fact that Marvel announced much of their upcoming slate of movies and shows at San Diego Comic-Con and, tellingly, didn't include the planned Eternals sequel. "[They] didn’t really mention Eternals 2, so…" Keoghan also mentioned that he would like to play Druig again. At SDCC, which took place the day before the interview was conducted, Marvel Studios announced the MCU's entire Phase Five slate, as well as the start of Phase Six, Fantastic Four, which will eventually get capped off with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Inauspiciously, Disney's D23 event also passed without an Eternals 2 announcement, with Marvel Studios focusing on other releases like the Disney+ special Werewolf by Night.

Patton Oswalt, who made a cameo in the mid-credits scene of Eternals as Pip the Troll, alongside Harry Styles' Starfox, seemingly confirmed that a sequel was in the works in an interview in early August. "They have announced there's going to be an Eternals sequel," he said. "Chloé Zhao is going to direct it. So, hopefully there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip." Nothing has been confirmed since by Marvel Studios or Zhao. Kevin Feige had previously stated that Starfox/Eros and Pip will appear again in some form, saying that "the adventures of Eros and Pip is something that is very exciting for us."

Marvel's Dane Whitman Dilemma

Eternals also featured the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Mahershala Ali's Blade, albeit in a voice-only cameo in the post-credits scene. The scene, which also featured Kit Harrington's Dane Whitman procuring the Black Knight's Ebony Blade, seemingly sets up a connection between the two characters to be explored in the former's upcoming reboot. However, Blade is reportedly facing delays after director Bassam Tariq stepped down, possibly shifting the start of production back from November 2022 to as late as Spring 2023.

Harrington also recently revealed that he has no idea when Dane Whitman will next appear. "People never believe you when you say this, but they don't tell us much really," he joked. Blade is still currently scheduled for release Nov. 3, 2023. Plus, in a further complication for the MCU's Black Knight matter, Harrington is set to reprise his star-making role as Jon Snow in his own Game of Thrones sequel series.

There have been a handful of references to the events of Eternals in subsequent MCU projects, including the brief appearance of two Celestials in Thor: Love and Thunder outside the Council of Godheads chamber and a blink-and-miss-it reference to Tiamut, still turned to marble by Sersi, in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Eternals is available to stream now on Disney+.
