With Eternals, Marvel Studios will step into a new realm of heroism --  in terms of its setting and representation. Angelina Jolie, who portrays the Eternals' leader Thena, recently discussed why she boarded the project.

"I love this cast, and that we all came together. I signed up to support Chloé [Zhao]’s vision and Marvel’s commitment to expand the way we see 'superheroes'," Jolie told Vogue. "Running around in a gold bodysuit was not how I imagined my forties. But it’s good crazy, I think."

Eternals will feature the first openly gay couple on-screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Brian Tyree Henry's Phastos living a happily married life with his husband. Lauren Ridloff will also play the MCU's first deaf hero as Makkari, the self-proclaimed "fastest woman in the universe."

The otherworldly film and its God-like heroes will debut in November, after having its release pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there's yet to be a released trailer for the film, merchandise -- including action figures and T-shirts -- has given fans a sneak peek into the characters' looks and their abilities.

Directed by Chloé Zhao from a screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo, Eternals stars Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Barry Keoghan as Druig and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman/Black Knight. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 5, 2021.
