The latest comic book looking to jump from page to screen may involve capes, but it's not the typical superhero blockbuster.

Variety has word that longtime visual effects supervisor John Dykstra (most recently of "X-Men: First Class") has signed on to make "Tales From The Farm" -- one of the books in cartoonist Jeff Lemire's award-winning Top Shelf trilogy "Essex County" -- into his directorial debut under the new title "Super Zero." The film will be produced by Steven Gilder and Alec Chorches, developed by FX company Rhythm & Hues Studios and come from a screenplay by John Carr.

Originally published in 2008, "Tales From The Farm" explores the relationship between a young boy named Lester who after losing his mother to cancer forms a strong bond with a hockey player turned gas station owner, and the pair survive their lives with the help of fantastic flights of fancy.

Variety's article indicates that "Super Zero" will be live action but will rely heavily on FX work for the fantasy scenes. "I've been so involved in films that are primarily based on the action sequences and over-the-top visuals that this to me was incredibly attractive just based on the depth of the characters and the evocative nature of the story," the director said.
