DC has released the first look at its Justice League: Endless Winter crossover, which pits the superhero team against the ancient menace of the Frost King.

The nine-issue weekly story begins with Justice League: Endless Winter #1, followed by The Flash #767 and Superman: Endless Winter #1. In addition to the main story, a series of flashbacks featuring a Viking Age Justice League will appear prominently in each issue. That League features Black Adam and the Amazonian Queen Hippolyta among its membership.

  • Superman finds himself at the center of an epic battle as the Frost King’s hordes of ice monsters come to life. Is this frozen onslaught too much for the Man of Steel, or can he stop it before it rampages across the chilling wasteland the world is becoming and reaches civilization? The answer to this question comes from an unlikely source close to Clark Kent’s earthly roots!

The preview pages for Justice League: Endless Winter feature the Frost King awakening and plunging the Earth into a new ice age. The Justice League springs into action, learning that the epicenter of the event is taking place at Superman's Fortress of Solitude. The Man of Steel will learn that he has an earthly connection to the Frost King in the Superman: Endless Winter special, while the Flash reluctantly teams up with Black Adam to stop the blizzard.

"Come for the big, fun superheroics, stay for the big, thematic stuff we're trying to thread through there too," co-writer Ron Marz told CBR while discussing how Endless Winter parallels to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Written by Andy Lanning and Ron Marz and illustrated by Howard Porter, Justice League: Endless Winter #1 goes on sale Dec. 1 from DC Comics.
