Disney's most recent feature film, Encanto, follows the story of Mirabel Madrigal, the powerless child in a family gifted with supernatural abilities. Encanto follows Mirabel as she learns her true role in the family while helping her relatives heal from wounds created by transgenerational trauma. Based on magic realist literature, Encanto is an entertaining tale about family dynamics and love.
Since Encanto is a celebration of Colombian culture, its plot is full of Colombian references and its cast is full of Colombian and Colombian-descended actors. Some of them are internationally famous already, while others are barely starting their careers. Regardless, they are all exceptionally talented.
14 María Cecilia Botero Is Abuela Alma
Alma Madrigal is the matriarch of the Madrigal family and the leader of their magical town. She's a strong and dedicated mother and grandmother who sometimes doesn't see what's really best for her family. However, it's undeniable that she tries her best.
Abuela Alma is voiced by Maria Cecilia Botero, a famous actress, television presenter, and journalist from Colombia. Before Encanto, she worked in several Colombian telenovelas, such as Hilos De Sangre Azul, La Bruja and Caballo Viejo. She also hosted a morning show called Día A Día for four years.
13 Mauro Castillo Plays Felix
Described as someone who's "just there to have a good time" Felix is Pepa's husband and the father of Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio. Since he isn't a Madrigal by blood, he doesn't have a gift. He's a relaxed guy who is always trying to balance his wife's strong emotions.
Felix is voiced by Mauro Castillo, a Salsa musician from the Colombian Pacific Coast. Before Encanto, Castillo played Wilson Manyoma in the soap-opera El Joe, La Leyenda but he's mostly famous for his music. His Afro-Latin flavor permeates Encanto's hit song We Don't Talk About Bruno.
12 Maluma Is Mariano Guzman
Voiced by Maluma, Mariano Guzmán is a handsome man with a very sensitive side. He's originally Isabela's boyfriend. After Isabela embraces her true identity, she breaks up with Mariano and he (probably) finds solace with Dolores.
Maluma is a famous Colombian singer and songwriter especially known for his reggaeton music. Funnily enough, he doesn't get to showcase his voice in Encanto. Encanto is his first acting work, but he also starred in Marry Me, a romantic comedy-drama, alongside Owen Wilson and Jennifer Lopez.
11 Adassa Lends Her Voice For Dolores
Dolores Madrigal is Pepa and Felix's eldest daughter. She's a shy girl with a tendency to disclose others' secrets due to her enhanced hearing abilities. Regardless of this foible, she clearly cares a lot about her family.
Dolores is voiced by Adassa, an urban reggaeton singer of Afro-Colombian descent. While Encanto is her first acting work, Adassa has been working on her music career since the early 2000s. Clearly, this is her priority. In We Don't Talk About Bruno, she showcases her rapping talents.
10 Ravi Cabot-Conyers Is Antonio
Felix and Pepa's son, Antonio Madrigal, is the youngest member of the Madrigals. He's a hyperactive and empathic boy with the ability to communicate with animals, a gift he received at the beginning of Encanto. Ravi Cabot-Conyers lends his voice to Antonio.
Since he's only 10 years old, Ravi Cabot-Conyers's career is quite short. Besides Encanto, he appeared on Netflix #BlackAF as Kam and in the movie Justine as Drew. It seems like Ravi Cabot-Conyer is on his way to a solid career.
9 Alan Tudyk Voices Pico The Toucan
Alan Tudyk voices Antonio's Toucan, Pico. He's the first creature Antonio understands after receiving his gift. He doesn't have any English lines, but the youngest Madrigal translates his croaking and growling.
Pico isn't Tudyk's first avian character. Besides Pico, he voiced Hei Hei in Moana and Iago in the live-action Aladdin. In addition to this, Tudyk is currently known for playing Mr. Nobody in HBO's Doom Patrol and Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle in Resident Alien he's a sci-fi icon because of his portrayal of Hoban Washburne (Wash) on Firefly.
8 Angie Cepeda Brings Julieta To Life
Julieta Madrigal is Isabela, Luisa and Mirabel's mother and Agustín's wife. She's a loving woman with the ability to heal people with her cooking. Her gift is an obvious nod to the Latin belief that a mother can heal anything, especially with homemade food.
Julieta's voice actress is Angie Cepeda, a Colombian actress with a long-standing career in her country. Internationally, she's known for her work as Lila in the TV series 2091 and her role as Maria Gonzales in Wild Horses, directed by and starring Robert Duvall.
7 Carolina Gaitan Is Aunt Pepa
Pepa Madrigal is one of Abuela Alma's daughters, Julieta and Bruno's sister, and Felix's wife. Since Pepa can control the weather depending on her mood, she's often described as overly emotional by everyone around her, which forces her to hide her true feelings.
Pepa is voiced by Carolina Gaitan, a Colombian actress with several important roles in Colombian soap operas. In addition to these, Gaitan has several lead roles in internationally famous Latin series, such as Celia, Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraiso, and Netflix's Narcos.
6 Wilmer Valderrama Lends His Voice For Agustin
Agustin Madrigal is Isabela, Luisa and Mirabel's father. He's an accident-prone man who fortunately married a woman with a healing gift. He doesn't have a magic gift, but he's a kind father and loving husband.
Wilmer Valderrama, a Venezuelan-Colombian man, is Agustin's voice actor. Currently, he plays Special Agent Nick Torres in NCIS, but Valderrama is famously known for his role as Fez, the eccentric foreign exchange student in the 1998 sitcom That '70s Show.
5 Jessica Darrow Is Luisa
Luisa Madrigal is Agustin and Julieta's middle child. She's a 19-year-old girl with superhuman strength, so everyone is always asking her for favors. Luisa never complains and assumes the responsibility of carrying everyone's burdens. In reality, she feels a lot of anxiety and fear of failure.
Jessica Darrow, a Cuban-American actress, provides Luisa's voice. Before Encanto, Darrow worked on the film Feast Of The Seven Fishes, where she played Sarah. Her career is barely starting, but there's no doubt Darrow's career is on the rise.
4 Rhenzy Feliz Voices Camilo
Camilo Madrigal is Pepa and Felix's middle son. He's a 15-year-old boy who "doesn't quite know who they are yet," according to Encanto's writer, Charise Castro Smith. This lack of self-awareness is obvious when considering his gift: shape-shifting.
Camilo is voiced by the 24-year-old actor Rhenzy Feliz. Although Feliz's career isn't very long yet, he's widely known for playing Alex Widler in the live-action series Marvel's Runaways, as well as Aaron in the supernatural show Teen Wolf.
3 Diane Guerrero Plays Isabela
Isabela is Julieta and Agustin's oldest daughter and the Madrigal family's golden child. She can conjure flowers out of thin air, but her gift ends up being a metaphor for the unattainable perfection everyone expects from her. Thanks to Mirabel, she breaks free of those expectations. Isabela is voiced by Diane Guerrero.
Guerrero's most famous work so far is her role as Crazy Jane in HBO's Doom Patrol. However, she also played beloved Maritza Ramos in Orange Is The New Black and Lina Santillan in Jane The Virgin.
2 John Leguizamo Plays Bruno
Abuela Alma's only son, Bruno, is a sensitive and caring man with the ability to see the future. Because of his gift, he's often seen as a bad omen and saboteur and is ostracized by his family and his town. This is all laid out in the film's most famous song, We Don't Talk About Bruno.
John Leguizamo provides Bruno's voice in Encanto. The 57-year-old actor has a long-standing career in film, television, and Broadway. He's particularly famous for voicing Sid in the Ice Age movies, portraying Dr. Victor Clemente in the 12th season of ER, and Ozzy Delvecchio in Bloodline.
1 Stephanie Beatriz Voices Mirabel
Encanto's main character, Mirabel, always felt like she didn't belong in her family because she lacks a magical gift. However, when her family's miracle begins to flicker, she realizes she's the only one who can save the Madrigal's magic.
Although she's only 15 years old, Mirabel is voiced by the 40-year-old actress Stephanie Beatriz. Fans know her from her role as Rosa Díaz in the NBC comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Recently, Beatriz has also shown off her talent in the musical film In The Heights, where she plays Carla.
