Wonder Woman has been around for many, many years and remains to this day one of the best comic book characters. It’s actually surprising it took DC this long to come out with a movie for her, but the movie released in 2017 was undoubtedly the best DC movie yet; maybe even the best superhero movie in general.
Part of what makes Wonder Woman so great is that she empowers other women. She has a habit of saying the right words to make women feel like they can take on the world and since there’s a severe lack of female representation in the comic world (although thankfully, it’s beginning to change!), she’s always meant a lot to girls everywhere.
So whether it’s from the comics or the movie, take a look at some of her quotes and feel inspired!
10. “If No One Else Will Defend The World, Then I Must.”
This quote is from the 2017 movie Wonder Woman and, honestly, says a lot about her. She’s not out for glory and not looking for credit; she didn’t rush into the superhero role because she wanted people to praise and worship her. She defends the world because it’s the right thing to do, which is a good lesson for everyone everywhere. Sure, we don’t all have Wonder Woman powers we can go out there and defend the world with, but the point is that you should do things because they’re right, not because you want the bragging rights. Doesn’t this quote just make you want to do some good deeds?
9. “Do Not Mistake A Desire To Avoid Violence With An Ability To Deal With It.”
Wonder Woman has always been something of a pacifist. She doesn’t particularly like fights or violence, but this quote reminds us of her true strength. There’s a threat in these words, a warning; she’s saying just because she doesn’t like to fight doesn’t mean she won’t win.
It’s a great quote, because there’s a misconception that pacifists or kind people are weak, and here is Wonder Woman to remind everyone that this simply isn’t true. The barely veiled threat in this sentence is just awesome.
And she sticks to her word because when a fight arises, Wonder Woman usually comes out on top. She has no problem holding her own, even if she doesn’t like violence! Her powers make sure of that.
8. “I Am The Man Who Can.”
Steve Trevor is a well-meaning guy but, well… he’s still a guy. And that means he sometimes says things that are born from the position of being a man of his time and not really considering that women might be equally as capable. So he says tells Diana that she can’t do much about the war, and that they should go find the men who can.
And this is her perfect clapback.
She’s not really calling herself a man; she’s pointing out that she is absolutely as capable as any man they could go find, and the sheer girl power in this quote is great.
7. “Power Without Self-Control Tears A Girl To Pieces.”
Although Wonder Woman is very powerful and her quotes will make you feel the same way, this is also an awesome one because it reminds people to have self-control. It’s easy to get carried away in life, to end up walking all over people when given some power in a job or in a personal relationship; but here is Wonder Woman, reminding us of another awesome life lesson: power is great, but you have to reign it in or you’ll destroy yourself.
Is there no base that she doesn’t touch on when it comes to giving us life lessons? I swear if she wrote a self-help book, I’d read it cover to cover.
6. “I Used To Want To Save The World…”
It’s a slightly longer quote, but it’s worth reading and taking in:
“I used to want to save the world. To end war and bring peace to mankind. But then I glimpsed the darkness that lives within their light. I learnt that inside every one of them there will always be both. The choice each must make for themselves—something no hero will ever defeat.”
She says it at the end of the movie, and it’s a very true message. Inside every person there’s darkness and light, and like they say in Harry Potter, “it is our choices who define who we are, far more than our abilities.” It’s telling you to make good choices, and that no one is inherently a bad person.
5. “I Will Fight For Those Who Cannot Fight For Themselves.”
This is Diana Prince all over. She’s not fighting her own fight, isn’t interested in gaining anything from what she does. She truly just wants to protect the weak and innocent; not because it gets her brownie points with anyone or advances her anywhere in life. Just because she’s altruistic and it’s the right thing to do.
And it’s a nice lesson. We’d live in an ideal world if everyone wanted to protect those more innocent who couldn’t fight for themselves, for no reason other than it being the right thing to do. Of course, not everyone is as selfless, but wouldn’t it be lovely if they were?
4. “Death Is Necessary.”
“It is a part of life, and if we say life is a blessing, we must say death is a blessing as well.”
We told you she covers every life lesson. That includes death, apparently.
Death is a huge fear for some people; the kind of thing they lie awake and worry about deep into the night. And it’s understandable that it’s anxiety-inducing, because it’s an inevitable and terrifying thing that’s going to happen to us all. But Wonder Woman even has an empowering way of looking at this, because what she says is oddly true. If we’re grateful for life, then death is just a part of that that’ll come right at the very end.
3. “Bonds Of Love Never Make The Wearer Weaker.”
It’s sad, but a lot of people consider love weak. Sometimes it’s outwardly, scoffing, and sometimes it’s an internal thing where they’re afraid to commit to someone because they think it makes them vulnerable, or afraid to tell someone how they feel.
Wonder Woman has always been a massive champion of love, saying again and again that it’s the best thing about humanity. Here she is, reminding us all that love doesn’t make someone weak. It’s a good mantra to repeat to yourself in a situation where you might feel vulnerable or afraid. Wonder Woman is truly never wrong. Never.
2. “No. But It’s What I’M Going To Do.”
It doesn’t sound like much on its own, but in context, it’s the scene of the 2017 movie that had everyone crying. In context, this quote gave everyone chills.
Steve is busy telling Diana that they can’t save some starving, dying civilians in the war, because saving them is not what they came to do. And Diana merely turns away from him, removes her cloak, and says this line before she walks across a battlefield to be shot at, determined to save those people.
It’s so heartwarming that she cares about each individual life and was absolutely a fist pump movie in the movie theater.
1. “It’s Not About What You Deserve; It’s About What You Believe.”
“And I believe in love.”
It’s her response to Ares, the villain of the movie. The God of War tells Diana that humans don’t deserve her help, that she’s lowering herself by being so devoted to them because they’re bad people. Diana tells him that he’s wrong about humans and that anyway, it isn’t about which individual human does or doesn’t deserve her help. It’s about what they’re capable of, and the choices they can make, and for this she is willing to protect them.
Take these quotes to heart, and remember them whenever you need motivation for life; they’re truly inspiring.
