The Amazing Spider-Man‘s Emma Stone has been offered the lead in Lionsgate’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Heat Vision reports.
Craig Gillespie’s adaptation of the bestselling literary mash-up would mark the second encounter with the walking dead for Stone, who starred opposite Jesse Eisenberg in 2009’s Zombieland.
Based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s 2009 parody novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombie sets Jane Austen’s characters in a Regency-era England where the undead roam the countryside. Elizabeth Bennett and her four sisters live on a country estate, where their father trains them to be martial arts and weapons experts as their mother works to marry them off to wealthy suitors. The book was a smash hit, kicking off the mash-up trend that spawned Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Android Karenina, Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter and similar works.
Numerous actresses, from Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson to Anne Hathaway and Mia Wasikowska, have been connected to the adaptation, but none of them has stuck. Portman is producing, along with Annette Savitch, Richard Kelly, Sean McKittrick and Tedd Hamm.
Update: Deadline now reports that Stone has passed on the role.
