Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn has made his career on the brutal side of elegant settings, and it looks like he'll continue in that trend with his next project: a horror film starring Elle Fanning.

The Wrap today got word that Refn's next project is The Neon Demon, an indie horror thriller set to star the Maleficent actress. From a script by the director and writer Mary Laws, Demon focuses on a would-be model who gets caught in a "world of beauty and demise." The project begins filming in Marsh and is being financed independently by French producers Gaumont and Wild Bunch.

“Elle Fanning is a super cool wonder woman and I look forward to going on a terrifying trip with her into The Neon Demon,” Refn said in a statement. The project marks his first film since the critically drubbed Only God Forgives. Fanning recently lent her voice to Laika's The Boxtrolls and will next appear in Jay Roach's Hollywood biopic Trumbo.
