WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen wasn't told about the plans for her character's appearance in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness until filming on the show was nearly wrapped.

Olsen appeared on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast and detailed how little she knew about Scarlet Witch's role in Doctor Strange 2 when she started the process of shooting WandaVision. "I really wish that there was a plan that someone shared with me a little sooner. (Laughs). I found out about Doctor Strange 2 and what the story was before we went for the last eight weeks of filming WandaVision during the pandemic," Olsen said. "I found out in, like, August, and then I wrapped WandaVision on a Wednesday and went to England Friday."

From there, Olsen spent the rest of the year in England and only recently returned to the States since Doctor Strange 2 wrapped filming last month. "It was a lot," Olsen said. "And then I just got home, like, 10 days ago. So it was a long time being in England. It was a long process."

While little is known about what role Scarlet Witch will have in the Doctor Strange sequel, WandaVision finished with the Avenger told she would become even more powerful than the Sorcerer Supreme. The series then ended with Wanda perusing the Darkhold and hearing the voices of her twins calling out to her. Olsen recently hyped it up saying, "It's a bonkers movie. They're definitely going for that horror show vibe."

Marvel is pushing WandaVision for an Emmy, and they may just get its wish given how critical successful the kickoff to Phase 4 of the MCU was. Wanda's struggle with grief won over non-superhero audiences and left plenty of directions for the character to go in. Doctor Strange 2's multiverse-hopping story may point the way forward for Wanda, possibly leading to the debut of a Scarlet Witch film franchise. Fans will know soon enough as the long-awaited sequel arrives early next year.
