Elementary Casts Spider-Man’s Rhys Ifans as Sherlock’s Brother

The Amazing Spider-Man star Rhys Ifans has been cast as Mycroft Holmes on Elementary, the CBS drama that transplants Sherlock Holmes and Watson to present-day New York City. He’ll make his debut as Sherlock’s older brother Sept. 26 in the Season 2 premiere, which is being shot in London.

In the episode, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) is called to London to revisit an old case and face Mycroft. Although the two brothers had a falling out years earlier, Mycroft allows Sherlock and his sober companion Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) to stay in his new home at 221B Baker Street, where the siblings are forced to come to grips with their complicated history. Ifans’ turn as Mycroft is billed as a recurring role.
Ifans, who was last seen as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man, has also appeared in such films as Notting Hill, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1.Elementary airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
