‘Elektra’ officially a go, ‘Daredevil’ comes in third

Although Comics2Film readers were the very first to learn about it, way back in December of 2001, Twentieth Century Fox finally made it official last week. The studio has announced plans for an “Elektra” movie spinning out of the box office hit “Daredevil.”

Kevin Feige, Executive Vice President of Marvel Studios, confirmed that the Elektra project has been in the works for quite some time. “We’re basking in the glow of the success of ‘Daredevil’ right now but we’ve been talking about both of them all through production,” Feige said. “There’s so many good stories in the comics, the hope is always to tell another one.”

Garner will reprise her role in the movie. Script development is said to be commencing “immediately.”

Other than Garner no one has been hired for the new project.

Simultaneously Fox officially announced plans for a “Daredevil” sequel.

“Daredevil” held the #1 spot at the box office for the first two weeks of its run and set performances records for a February film. This week it ended up in the #3 spot, according to Box Office Mojo, with early weekend estimates showing the movie’s total domestic gross coming in at a healthy $84.1 million.

“Daredevil” further solidifies Marvel’s viability as a creative force in Hollywood. The comic-based production house now has four concurrently running film franchises in “Spider-Man,” “X-Men,” “Daredevil” and “Blade” and will likely see that number grow with the summer release of “The Hulk.”
