A creative Elden Ring player with impressive technical skills has constructed a robot that takes over his controller and repeatedly runs through one of the game's most famous farming spots, earning millions of runes a day.

Reddit user IZICA posted a two-minute video of their robot in action. The opening shot shows Elden Ring running on a monitor with IZICA's wild-looking robotic creation sitting in front of it. On the screen, IZICA's player-character stands up from a "Site of Grace" -- one of the game's save points -- walks a few yards to some high-level enemies, kills them with a special move, then walks back to the save point and resets the level. Meanwhile, the camera pans over the cardboard and tape-covered machine that's controlling a gamepad inside, showcasing the robot in action.

"The robot uses light sensors to see where the site of grace is," IZICA wrote in the comments, where they took the time to answer some questions from other Redditors. One asked how many runes the machine could farm in an "8-hour work day." "Almost 50 mil," IZICA replied, adding in other posts that the contraption cost about $60 to make and that it took around "80 hours to build / program." One commenter pointed out that IZICA could have spent all that time just farming the runes manually. IZICA replied, "Farming the runes is repetitive and boring. Building the robot is not."

Dedicated fans will remember the location in the video as Elden Ring's best late-game farming spot, the "Palace Approach Ledge-Road." They may also recognize "The Sacred Relic" sword being used to one-hit the enemies onscreen, a blade players earn only after beating the entire game. As a sprawling, challenging, dark-fantasy RPG developed by FromSoftware, Elden Ring has surprised many by becoming the best-selling video game of 2022. Consequently, it's become a hotbed for modders and gamers looking to test every possible limit in the game.

One player modded Elden Ring to work with a banana controller. Others added Thomas the Tank Engine to the game as steed or dragon replacements. One created a complex mod that allowed every boss in Elden Ring to fight each other to determine which was the toughest. Moreover, the game's cryptic and mysterious storytelling style is fertile ground for all kinds of fan theories. One recent, interesting theory posits that the entire setting for Elden Ring -- a place called "The Lands Between" -- is, in fact, a post-apocalyptic Ireland.

Elden Ring is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
