Elden Ring, like many of FromSoftware's other games, features multiple endings for players to discover. Each ending centers around aiding a specific NPC, and once completed, usually locks the player into that ending. The endings of Elden Ring are as varied as the NPCs they're tied to, and each casts the Lands Between in a very different light.

Players can only unlock one ending per playthrough, so gamers looking to see every aspect of the story and unlock every achievement, will need to complete six playthroughs in total. While six endings are currently confirmed, the Elden Ring community isn't convinced that there aren't more. For now, players hoping to unlock more than the default ending will need to keep an eye out for NPCs Ranni, Brother Corhyn, Fia, the Dung-Eater and the Three Fingers.

Continue Elden Ring's Cycle With The Age Of Fracture

A lone character in Elden Ring

This is considered the default ending of Elden Ring. Beat the mandatory bosses of the game, make your way to the Erdtree and defeat the enemies that await within. There are no side-quests that require completing and no NPCs that need be helped. This is the ending speedrunners unlock after cheesing it through the game.

Though this is the default ending of the game, players find it underwhelming. Much like the default endings in the Dark Souls series, this ending sees the Land Between stay mostly the same, continuing the same cycle of problems that started the game's series of events in the first place.

Make Elden Ring Better With The Age Of Order

Elden Ring Goldmask

This ending requires the player to help Brother Corhyn and see his questline through to the end. Helping Brother Corhyn means players must interact with the mysterious, yet wise, Goldmask, as well. In doing so, players will obtain the Rune of Perfect Order. In the final moments of the game, as players face the Elden Ring, they can choose to use the Rune of Perfect Order in an attempt to make the Lands Between better, forever changing the Erdtree. This ending is considered "good" since it at least tries to fix some of the problems in the Lands Between instead of merely passing the torch.

Curse The World Of Elden Ring With The Age of Despair

Elden Ring dung eater

Players who help the corrupt and vile Dung-Eater are rewarded with the Age of Despair ending. While some in the Elden Ring community will argue this can be interpreted as a "good" ending in a way, most see this as a "bad" ending, especially considering the NPC around which it centers.

The Dung-Eater's questline requires players to obtain five Seedbed Curses, which are described in Elden Ring as, "One of the most loathsome things found in the Lands Between." After players hand the five Seedbed Curses over to the Dung-Eater, they'll be rewarded with the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse which they can use to usher in the Age of Despair.

Welcome Death With The Age of Duskborn In Elden Ring

Elden Ring Fia

Players have the option of helping the Deathbed Companion, Fia, with her questline. If they do, they'll be gifted the Rune of the Death-Prince. In the final moments of the game, players who use this Rune are rewarded with the Age of Duskborn. Death, or its absence, plays a large part in the lore of Elden Ring. And someone intimately acquainted with Death throughout the game is Fia, who has a goal of bringing someone back from the dead. Players who usher in the Age of Duskborn will find themselves intimately acquainted with Death before long.

Forsake The Elden Ring And Become Lord Of The Frenzied Flame

A Knight from Elden Ring

Considered a "bad" ending -- possibly even the worst ending -- players who work their way to the Three Fingers will obtain the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending. Though this questline is not as long as others in the game, it does require extensive exploration in some of the game's most difficult areas. If players choose to aid the Three Fingers and become branded, they will be locked into this ending no matter how many other NPCs they help. In the final moments, when the player is standing within the Erdtree, they won't be given a prompt. They will simply become the Lord of Frenzied Flame and bring about a new age for the Lands Between.

A Thousand Year Voyage With Elden Ring's The Age Of Stars

Elden Ring Ranni

This "good" ending, considered by the Elden Ring community to be the best ending, is unlocked after players have helped Ranni and finished her questline. In the final moments of the game, players are shown a very different cutscene than the variations they've seen before. While still obtaining the title of Elden Lord, this ending has the Lands Between changing drastically, for good or ill.

The Age of Stars ending is the hardest to unlock because Ranni's quest is the longest in the game. The questline takes players through two hidden cities, intersects with various other NPC questlines, and features some of the hardest boss battles in the game. Players consider the Age of Stars ending canon as it answers the most questions and resolves the most issues of all the endings.
