Bad Bunny is promising that his Spider-Man spinoff movie, El Muerto, will be nothing short of epic.

Speaking to Zane Lowe, the multitalented musician, actor and pro wrestler expressed his excitement when he was cast in the upcoming Sony Spider-Man Cinematic Universe project alongside Venom and Morbius. But the idea of being the first live-action Latino lead in a Marvel movie makes El Muerto more special to him. "Sometimes, I can’t believe it yet, but it’s the result of my work," Bad Bunny said. "The way I am, the way I work, I’m so proud, very happy about this character, this opportunity to be the first Latino. It’s not about 'I'm gonna be the first Latino making a role,' it's gonna be about the first Latino main character, that's the important thing. So it's something huge, and it will be epic. I know that the people are gonna be proud about my work."

Bad Bunny, the stage name for Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, recently portrayed a Mexican assassin in the upcoming Brad Pitt action-thriller Bullet Train. His performance made such a big impression on Sony executives that they decided to cast him as one of the most obscure characters in Marvel Comics. El Muerto, as well as Bad Bunny's casting, was announced at the Sony presentation at CinemaCon. "Sometimes we get lucky with perfect casting," Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch said. "We think audiences are going to be excited by where these marvel characters are headed."

Created by Peter David and Roger Cruz, Marcus Estrada de la García/El Muerto first appeared in 2006's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #6. The character is a luchador whose mystical mask grants him extraordinary strength, endurance and speed. His real name is Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez, and he is one in a long line of Mexican wrestlers named El Muerto who are given special power by their mystical mask, which has been handed down for generations. El Muerto is one of several Sony Spider-Man Cinematic Universe projects in the works which include the Kraven the Hunter film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Madame Web starring Dakota Johnson, a third installment in the Venom series starring Tom Hardy and a mystery Sony/Marvel project to be directed by Olivia Wilde.
