Victoria Alonso, Marvel’s executive vice president of visual effects, recently chatted with Omelete about the studio’s plans for Ant-Man and revealed the sizzle reel might actually see the light of day. Considering many, many people didn’t get the chance to watch it there, we’d consider that a great thing.
“What we showed at Comic-Con was a work in progress,” Alonso said. “We’re working on finishing it, and I think you might see it. Not sure where, but we always listen to the fans. And if the fans demand it we make sure they get it. I don’t know if we are going to post it online, but I don’t have [any reason] to believe we may not.”
She also reconfirmed that Wright will indeed be directing the project.
Ant-Man has been in development at Marvel since at least 2006, when it was planned as part of the studio’s first wave of releases, alongside Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. No release date has been announced, although there have been rumors it could be Marvel’s third project of 2014.
Wright has described Ant-Man as “essentially a high-tech spy heist film with somebody with a very particular power,” with a level of comedy on par with that of Iron Man. “The idea is to make a high-concept genre film where it’s within another genre,” he said in 2010. “His suit and its power is the big gadget and it takes place in the real world. I just wanted to do something that was slightly different than the superhero origin film. I felt that between that and the various mad scientist, crazy doctor films that we’ve all seen, this would be a way into an origin that was slightly different.”
