In addition to overwhelmingly positive reviews, The Suicide Squad just got an endorsement from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World director Edgar Wright.Wright posted his thoughts about The Suicide Squad on Twitter, calling it "my fav comic book movie in many a moon." He specifically singled out James Gunn's visual direction and ability to blend wild and serious storytelling moments together, writing, "I really admire his go for broke nuttiness in this, but it's all anchored in a crisp style that feels like you're ripping through a 6 issue limited series. Hats off JG."RELATED: The Suicide Squad's Early Reviews Mark a First for James Gunn

In addition, Wright briefly mentioned where he watched The Suicide Squad in advance, and he revealed his choice of concession snack during the screening: a bag of Galaxy Minstrels.

Though he never officially directed a superhero movie, Wright was heavily involved in writing the script for 2015's Ant-Man before leaving the project, with filmmaking duties eventually going to Peyton Reed. During the process of developing the film, Wright successfully adapted Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim book series into 2010's critically acclaimed Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, whose cast featured a number of former and future DC and Marvel superhero actors. Some notable names include Michael Cera (The LEGO Batman Movie), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey), Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger, Fantastic Four), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, DC's Legends of Tomorrow), Aubrey Plaza (Legion) and Thomas Jane (The Punisher).

Currently, The Suicide Squad holds a 96% certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated movie in the DC Extended Universe to date. The film follows members of Task Force X, overseen by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) infiltrating the island of Corto Maltese in order to locate and destroy a weapon of extraterrestrial origin. Meanwhile, Wright released the official trailer for his new horror film, Last Night in Soho, in May, which tells the story of Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie), a fashion designer who keeps living the life of a 1960s singer named Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy).

Last Night in Soho is currently set for an October 22 release date. Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad hits both theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 6.
