A trailer has arrived for Edgar Wright's psychedelic horror/thriller Last Night in Soho.

The trailer introduces Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) as Eloise, an aspiring fashion designer who's mysteriously able travel back in time to 1960s London and sees the world through the eyes of her idol Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy), a "dazzling wannabe singer." However, things are not what they seem and before long, Eloise realizes that what she thought was a dream is really a nightmare in disguise.

Last Night in Soho Poster

In addition to teasing the film's trippy time-travel plot, the Last Night in Soho trailer is full of neon-soaked lighting and sinister men from Sandy's world, as brought to life by Matt Smith (Doctor Who) and Terence Stamp (Superman II). The video also features Taylor-Joy's Sandy performing a rendition of "Downtown," the iconic pop song that was first recorded by Petula Clark in 1964 and has since been covered by numerous other singers. Along with the trailer, Focus Features has unveiled a poster that hints at the mystifying link between the film's leads.

Last Night in Soho is Wright's first non-documentary directorial effort since 2017's Baby Driver and is based on an original script he co-penned with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Penny Dreadful, 1917). The movie takes inspiration from classic British thrillers Don't Look Now and Repulsion, and will mark the final film appearances by Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones) and Margaret Nolan (Goldfinger), both of whom passed away in 2020.

Originally scheduled to open in Sept. 2020, Last Night in Soho was delayed to the following spring in response to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It has since moved back again and is now slated to arrive in October, pitting it against the other horror films hoping to appeal to moviegoers in the mood for a scare that month.
