Eddie Redmayne Eyed For JK Rowling's 'Harry Potter' Prequel

Despite the fact that he also starred in Jupiter Ascending last year, Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne looks primed for another shot at tentpoll stardom at Warner Bros. The Hollywood Reporter has a story up tying the actor to the incoming Harry Potter prequel series Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

Inspired by the in-universe textbook of the same name, the trilogy of films will be set 70 years before the first Harry Potter book and will focus on eccentric author and monster chaser Newt Artemis Fido Scamander. Rowling herself will be penning the screenplays for the film, which are expected by be helmed by Harry Potter franchise veteran David Yates.

While the studio won't confirm their desire to cast Redmayne, the trade reports that he is their top choice. The only stumbling block to overcome is the actor's desire to read the script first.

Rowling has been busy of late. Aside from her new life as a best-selling adult novelist, she recently teased that she's open to penning more books starring her beloved boy wizard.
