It's been just about nine months since we first heard that Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum were offered the lead roles in the Wachowskis' new movie Jupiter Ascending, but there hasn't been much news about the mysterious sci-fi project since other than that they both accepted the parts. Now we know a little bit more about the film: Namely, that Les Miserables' Eddie Redmayne has entered into negotiations to star.
Variety is reporting Redmayne's potential involvement, though there's no news about the role he would play. Based on what we know so far, Jupiter Ascending tells the story "higher forms of life [who] are watching us from other, albeit this time non-meta worlds, but actual, other worlds, as in planets and moons." Kunis will play a Russian immigrant who possesses the same genetic makeup of the Queen of the Universe and is a threat to her rule. Tatum is going to portray an evolved being who is a bounty hunter sent to kill Kunis. As often happens in these situations in films, he ends up falling in love with her in the process.
Production on Jupiter Ascending is slated to start early next year. There is no set release date for the project. It is going to be written and directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski, marking their first major return to the science fiction genre since The Matrix trilogy.
