Rick Remender has revealed a rejected storyline he planned for his Venom run, which would have seen Eddie Brock, who was bonded to the Toxin symbiote at the time, go into heat and spawn several symbiote spores that would have led to a worldwide infection.

Remender posted part of the pitch document on Twitter, as well as a mockup image of a symbiote-infected Captain America.

According to the pitch, the infections would have spread worldwide, infesting entire cities. Carnage would rule over an infected New York City, and the infection would have spread to other Marvel heroes. Ultimately, Agent Venom, Spider-Man and the Secret Avengers would be the last line of defense against the infection.

The story included several major moments, with Brock sacrificing himself to try and stop the infection, a group of "Symbiote Hunters" from outer space and Spidey learning about Flash Thompson's dual identity as Venom.

Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman's Absolute Carnage miniseries was a Venom-centric event that saw Carnage stealing the codexes of every symbiote host in an attempt to wake the dark god Knull.
