Frank Drebin is back! Variety reports that Ed Helms has signed on to fill Leslie Nielsen's shoes in Paramount Pictures' reboot of the cop parody Naked Gun.

Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant are writing the script. The frequent collaborators, who co-created and starred on Reno 911, have a knack for bouncing back and forth between family-friendly fare like Night at the Museum and far more satirical movies like Hell Baby, which they also directed. It would stand to reason they'll be learning more toward the latter for Naked Gun.

Based on the short-lived television series, the Paramount franchise debuted in 1988 with Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, which was followed by two sequels, 1991's Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear and 1994's Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.
