Ed Burns, who already has a series-regular role on TNT's upcoming 1940s cop drama Mob City, is sticking with the same network and period-procedural theme for his next project.

The writer, director and actor has stepped behind a new project for TNT called Public Morals, set in 1967 and centered on New York City's Public Morals Division — a group of "cops who walk the line between morality and criminality as the temptations that comes from dealing with all kinds of vice can get the better of them," according to Deadline.

Burns will write and direct the pilot, as well as star in it as Terry Muldoon, a policeman "who knows the line between the good guys and bad guys is thin, and he is determined to raise his sons to be honest and hardworking as he deals with the dark underbelly of the vice world." Deadline notes that Burns' father worked for the NYPD during the late 1960s, giving the writer-director-actor unique insight as he develops the project.
