Set photos from production on Disney+'s upcoming Echo series show a more comics-accurate look for Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.

On Instagram, Atlanta_Filming, which has provided numerous set photos from production on Marvel Cinematic Universe series in the past, shared images of Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin in a costume that seems to be comics-accurate. The user noted that they cropped the images in such a way as to avoid spoiling any plot points about the scenes being filmed.

Who Is Kingpin?

Created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., Kingpin first appeared in 1967's The Amazing Spider-Man #50. The criminal mastermind was originally an enemy of Spider-Man. However, after several decades, he became more associated with Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Recently, Fisk had a run as the Mayor of New York City, which led directly into the Devil's Reign event.

In the MCU, D'Onofrio first played Kingpin in Daredevil, the first of Netflix's streaming series focused on street-level heroes. He played a key role in all three seasons of the show. However, following the cancellations of all of Netflix's Marvel shows, the status of the character remained unclear. Still, D'Onofrio ended up reprising his role in 2021's Hawkeye. Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil on the character's Netflix show, then returned to his character with 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. It's still not totally clear at this time just how canonical the events of Netflix's Daredevil are to the rest of the MCU.

What Is Echo?

In Hawkeye, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop encountered Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), who soon learned not everything was as it seemed with regard to the death of her father. Echo will see Lopez reconnecting with her roots. The series will see Zahn McClarnon play William Lopez, who is Maya's father. Additionally, Kingpin and Daredevil are both set to have roles. However, it's unclear just in what capacity they'll return to the series.

In the comics, Echo was created by David Mack and Joe Quesada, having first appeared in 1999's Daredevil #9. The character, who is deaf, is a skilled martial artist and has over the years served alongside such key teams as the Avengers. Currently, Lopez has control of the incredibly powerful Phoenix Force, making her more formidable than ever.

Created by Marion Dayre, Echo is slated to release at some point in mid-2023 on Disney+. The series is part of the MCU's Phase Five.
