Echo star Alaqua Cox confirmed through social media posts that filming has completed on the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series.

Cox, who first appeared as Echo in last year's Hawkeye on Disney+, shared a story on her Instagram which included memorial images of her father and text saying filming had wrapped. The series centers on Maya Lopez, a young Deaf martial artist, reconnecting with her Native American roots and discovering more about herself and her family. Shooting for Echo began in May 2022.

Who Is Alaqua Cox's Character?

Maya was introduced in Hawkeye when Clint Barton and Kate Bishop encountered her as an associate and protégée of Wilson Fisk, a crime boss whose identity was kept hidden until the final episode as a surprise for viewers who would recognize actor Vincent D'Onofrio, reprising his character from Netflix's Daredevil. Although initially playing the role of antagonist to Clint and Kate, Maya soon learned that what she had believed about Fisk, and the death of her father, was not the whole truth.

In Marvel Comics, the character of Echo first appeared in 1999, created by David Mack and Joe Quesada for Daredevil #9. Over the years, Echo has served alongside such key teams as the Avengers and has even been the host of the incredibly powerful Phoenix Force, making her not only a fan favorite but a very formidable hero.

What's in Store for Echo's Series?

D'Onofrio's villain Fisk, also known as Kingpin, is confirmed to be returning for Echo. Recent set photos show the actor in what appears to be a comics-accurate Kingpin costume. In addition, Daredevil himself will be in the show, played by Charlie Cox, another of Netflix's Marvel actors who has begun to reprise his role for MCU properties including Spider-Man: No Way Home and an upcoming appearance in She-Hulk. At this time, the extent and nature of either actor's role in Echo is unknown, although Daredevil is said to be searching for a former ally, rumored to be Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones.

Echo will also see Zahn McClarnon playing William Lopez, Maya's late father, as he did in a flashback in Hawkeye. Dances with Wolves and American Gods star Graham Greene is confirmed to be in the series, as well as Reservation Dogs stars Devery Jacobs.

Created by Marion Dayre, Echo is slated to release at some point in mid-2023 on Disney+. The series is part of the MCU's Phase Five.
