Queer Representation in All-Ages and Youth Medi
Friday, 4/8/16, 1:45-2:45pm, Room T302
Many people have often dismissed queer content as adult-content inappropriate for kids. However, as we’ve seen in the popularity and successes of Legend of Korra, Steven Universe, and Lumberjanes, LGBTQIA+ and queer characters and storylines resonate with young audiences. Join moderator Shannon Watters (Lumberjanes) as she leads as a discussion with James Tynion IV (The Woods), Janelle Asselin (Rosy Press), and Brittney Williams (Goldie Vance), on how we can better include healthy representation and how to make them standard practice.

YA, Why Not? The Importance of Teen and Young Adult Comics
Saturday, 4/9/16, 11:15am-12:15pm, Room T302
Once the fastest growing genre in literature, YA books have grown beyond babysitting and first loves. Now that graphic novels are making award-winning shortlists, comics aimed at middle grade and young adult readers are growing in popularity. Join BOOM! Studios senior editor Sierra Hahn and authors Raina Telgemier (Smile), Faith Erin Hicks (The Adventures of Superhero Girl, Friends with Boys), Hope Larson and Brittney Williams (Goldie Vance), Liz Prince (Tomboy: A Graphic Novel), and Royden Lepp (Rust) in a discussion on the significance of these emerging categories of comics and what that means for modern literacy.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: It’s Morphin Time!
Saturday, 4/9/16, 1:45-2:45pm, Room T304
In January, BOOM! Studios launched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a new comic series based on the hit ’90s live-action children’s TV series about a group of ordinary teenagers who “morphed” into superheroes to save the world from evil. Join series writer Kyle Higgins and The Further Adventures of Bulk and Skull writer Steve Orlando, and Mighty Morphin Power Ranges: Pink writer Brenden Fletcher as they talk with editor Dafna Pleban about the new series and the everlasting popularity of these “teenagers with attitude.” With special guests.

Goldie Vance: Detective Services
Saturday, 4/9/16, 5:30-6:30pm, Room T304
Grab your magnifying glass, put on your sleuthing’ shoes and prepare your noggin’! Join the brilliant minds and collaborators behind the new original series Goldie Vance from BOOM! Box, the BOOM! Studios imprint that brought you Lumberjanes! Join Hope Larson, Brittney Williams, Shannon Watters, Dafna Pleban, and moderator, Tumblr Comic’s Marlene Bonnelly, as they discuss valet girl and part-time detective Goldie Vance’s shenanigans at the Crossed Palms Resort, and the importance of hardcore lady types!
