Longtime Batman villain Clayface is officially Arrowverse canon.

DC has provided CBR with an official preview for the first issue of Earth-Prime, its upcoming comic book limited series set within The CW's Arrowverse. Set to arrive this coming Tuesday, April 5, Earth-Prime #1 focuses on the character of Ryan Wilder/Batwoman (played on The CW's Batwoman by Javicia Leslie). The issue comes from the creative team of writers Natalie Abrams, Kelly Larson and Camrus Johnson (who plays Luke Fox/Batwing on the show); artist Clayton Henry; colorist Marcelo Maiolo; and letterer Tom Napolitano. It features main cover art by Kim Jacinto, as well as a photo variant cover from Nino Muñoz featuring Leslie's Batwoman.

The preview itself pits Batwoman against Clayface. It was previously confirmed that the character exists within the Arrowverse. The villain was directly referenced in two episodes of Batwoman Season 2. However, he has yet to actually take on Leslie's Caped Crusader in live-action.

  • Ever since the tech that created many of Batman's rogues hit the streets, Ryan Wilder has been running herself ragged trying to contain the new villains popping up around Gotham City. But when Clayface's mud binds itself to a local high schooler, Batwoman will need help from an unexpected source in order to contain this muddy foe! Also, follow how Luke Fox balances his life as a superhero and a boyfriend!

Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, the original Clayface, Basil Karlo, first appeared in 1940's Detective Comics #40. The Clayface mantle has since been assumed by a number of other characters, including Preston Payne, Sondra Fuller, Cassius Payne, Peter Malley, Todd Russell and Johnny Williams. Clayface was previously adapted into live-action in both The WB's Birds of Prey and Fox's Gotham.

Earth-Prime is a six-part DC limited series taking place in The CW's DC TV universe. Issue #1 obviously stars Batwoman, whereas issue #2 will take readers to Smallville for a Superman & Lois story. Each issue of the series focuses on a different Arrowverse hero, save for the sixth and final issue, which will be a crossover.

Written by Natalie Abrams, Kelly Larson and Camrus Johnson, illustrated by Clayton Henry, colored by Marcelo Maiolo and lettered by Tom Napolitano, Earth-Prime #1 goes on sale April 5 from DC.
