With Avengers: Infinity War, Rocket Raccoon and Peter Quill's Star Lord have made their third Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance, this time alongside the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. But thanks to an early piece of concept art, it appears as if both characters could have looked very differently in their big screen movies.Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development and artist Ryan Meinerding revealed on his Twitter account an old piece of art he drew prior to James Gunn's first Guardians of the Galaxy film. At this point in the development of the film, Rocket Raccoon was supposed to look more alien than an actual Earth raccoon. As for Star-Lord, his costume, helmet and mask looked to be a lot more comics accurate, with colors that called back to Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning famous Guardians of the Galaxy comics, a run that would heavily inspire James Gunn's 2014 film.

In theaters now, Avengers: Infinity War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will release in theaters in 2020.
