Marvel Studios concept artist Jerad S. Marantz has shared early concept art from Avengers: Infinity War including an unused design for Red Skull for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Posted on the artist's Instagram account, the concept art shows rough sketches as the Red Skull was a more emaciated wraith and as a crawling, sniveling shell of his former self similar to The Lord of the Rings' character Gollum before the production ultimately went with his final design as seen in the MCU film as the guardian of the Soul Stone on Vormir.

In addition to working on Infinity War, Marantz also has provided concept art for Deadpool 2, Black Panther and Justice League. Additional unused designs for Red Skull's return in Infinity War had the character appear even more monstrous than the unused concept art.

With the Russo Brothers claiming that Red Skull is on the loose again following Thanos' claiming the Soul Stone for himself and actor Ross Marquand playing coy if the MCU villain will return in Avengers: Endgame, it will be interesting to see what form the character takes should he ever reappear on the big screen.
