Dylan McDermott Joins Mercy

It’s a big week for Dylan McDermott. People were already talking about the actor after Saturday Night Live‘s “Dylan McDermott or Dermot Mulroney?” sketch, and then he made a return to FX’s American Horror Story. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s signed on for a film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1984 short story “Gramma.”

Retitled Mercy, the film follows a woman played by Frances O’Connor (A.I.), who moves with her two sons (Chandler Riggs of The Walking Dead and Joel Courtney of Super 8) into their grandmother’s house to help care for her. However, O’Connor’s character soon discovers that her mother may be a witch who dabbled in the black arts. McDermott will play an old flame of O’Connor’s who comes back into the picture.

Announced in October, Mercy is produced by Blumhouse, the company behind recent horror hits like Sinister and the Paranormal Activity films. The Haunting in Connecticut‘s Peter Cornwell is directing.
