Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson quietly announces that he's working on a film adaption of a major video game franchise.

Speaking to Men's Journal, Johnson revealed that the announcement regarding the adaption should come before the end of 2022. "I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years," said Johnson. The wrestler-turned-actor also noted that he's a major fan of the Madden franchise but it's unlikely that the specified film will be based on the popular sports game.

Johnson continued on to say that the final product will be a faithful adaption, appealing to both players of the mystery franchise and wider audiences. "I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we’re going to do right by our gamer friends—but really we’re just going to make a great movie," concluded the Johnson.

While the video game in question is never mentioned, Johnson has a storied history with the video game industry. While still predominantly known for his wrestling career, the actor helped announce Microsoft's original Xbox console back in 2001. He has appeared as himself in several major WWE video games and more recently stars as The Foundation, a pivotal character in the ultra-popular battle royale shooter Fortnite. While Epic Games previously announced that it was bolstering its entertainment division, it's currently unknown whether the publisher is actively developing a Fortnite film.

Johnson has risen to superstardom in recent years, starring in several majorly successful Hollywood blockbusters including MoanaThe Fate and the Furious and the reboot of Jumanji. Audiences will soon be able to see the ex-wrestler enter the DCEU in the highly-anticipated film Black Adam which features Johnson as the titular anti-hero.

Speaking to his role as the leader of the fictional nation of Kahndaq, Johnson said that as a child, he viewed Teth-Adam as a hero. "Growing up the DC villains were always my 'heroes.' As evil as they were, they were always my favorite. Still are. Luthor, Joker, Brainiac, Sinestro etc. and of course the ruthless one, Black Adam. Cooking up some cool, bad ass and fun plans with DC to introduce Black Adam into the Universe."

Black Adam arrives in cinemas on July 29.
