The following article contains possible spoilers for Black Adam, in theaters Oct. 21.

Following much speculation, anticipation and teasing, Black Adam star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson appears to have confirmed that fast-approaching DC Extended Universe film will feature the long-awaited return of Henry Cavill's Superman.

At a screening of Black Adam, Entertainment Tonight -- noting that the "cat is out of the bag" -- asked Johnson how involved he was in Cavill's return to the DCEU. "Well, here's what I can tell you," Johnson replied, choosing his words carefully. "I can tell you that the whole goal and initiative of Black Adam was to build out the DC Universe by introducing not only Black Adam, but the entire JSA... and also, as I have been saying all along, there's an ethos that we at Seven Bucks [Productions] have... and that is, we always put the fans first... So, for years, audiences have been so passionate and vocal about-- we've established Black Adam as the most powerful and unstoppable force on our planet. But the fans have been so passionate about... 'Where is the most unstoppable force in the universe? Where is he?' Well... we've all been fighting for this moment, so I will say this: Welcome home."

To Johnson's point, DCEU fans have long been calling for Cavill's return to the franchise, as the actor has technically not portrayed the Last Son of Krypton in half a decade. Cavill first played Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman in 2013's Man of Steel, the first film in the DCEU. He subsequently reprised the role in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and, most recently, 2017's Justice League.

The DCEU's Superman has subsequently appeared in other projects, including the 2019 film Shazam! and the 2022 HBO Max series Peacemaker. However, Cavill was not involved in either cameo, with the Man of Steel instead being played by a body double in both projects. Cavill did appear as Superman in Zack Snyder's Justice League, the 2021 director's cut of the aforementioned 2017 film. Unlike some of his co-stars however, Cavill did not shoot new footage for the 2021 version of Justice League.
