"Furious 7" star Dwayne Johnson announced via Instagram that he will sing in his role as Maui, the lead male protagonist in Disney's upcoming animated musical "Moana."

Johnson officially signed on for the singing role following a two-hour presentation from the studio. He was reported to be in talks for the role in December, though this is the first confirmation that he will sing in the film.

The film follows born navigator Moana, who sets sail in search of a fabled island in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania. On her journey, she teams up with the legendary demigod Maui and explores the open ocean, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.

"Moana" is scheduled for a Nov. 23, 2016, release.
