Dwayne Johnson Invents the Tweet in New Moana Clip

Just as Prometheus brought the gift of fire to mankind, so too was Twitter a gift from the gods. At least that’s what this new clip from Disney’s upcoming “Moana” would have you believe.

Maui, shapeshifter, demigod of the wind and sea, hero of men (and women!) is very impressed with himself, especially next to Moana, the hero of Disney’s next animated film, who seems somewhat less awed. The demigod is thrilled to sign his autograph on Moana’s oar, carving his signature with the nearest object he can find — in this case, a chicken.

“I’m gonna use a bird to write with,” Maui explains, “it’s called tweeting.” Voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it’s hard not to be charmed by this larger than life blowhard. It looks like co-star Auli’i Carvalho will have her hands full. Fortunately, she seems more than up for the task.

Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker and starring Auli’i Carvalho and Dwayne Johnson, “Moana” also features the voice talents of Alan Tudyk, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger and Temuera Morrison and original music by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It arrives in theaters on November 23.
