The ongoing drama between Warner Bros. Discovery and Black Adam star, Dwayne Johnson, took another strange turn overnight when it was alleged that Johnson had unfollowed Warner Bros. Discovery and the official Black Adam account on social media. Johnson took to social media himself to debunk the assertions, explaining that he had never actually followed either Warner Bros. Discovery of the official Black Adam account in the first place. This news follows a series of reports suggesting that Johnson was at odds with Warner Bros. executives over the star's handling of the promotion of Black Adam, from allegations that Johnson shared information designed to make Black Adam look more profitable than it was to the suggestion that Johnson maneuvered to get Henry Cavill to cameo in Black Adam to solidify Johnson's position in the future of the DC film universe by linking Black Adam together with Cavill's Superman. DWAYNE JOHNSON SETS THE SOCIAL MEDIA RECORD STRAIGHT

When Johnson spent Friday night tweeting about the Christmas episode of his sitcom, Young Rock, and didn't mention the debut of Black Adam on HBO Max, fans grew concerned, leading to a report that Johnson had unfollowed both Warner Bros. Discovery and Black Adam on Instagram. Comicbook.com's Brandon Davis mentioned the news in a tweet, and Johnson tweeted to him to debunk the news, explaining that he had never followed either account in the first place.

After Davis apologized for the mistake (and deleted his original tweet), Johnson responded, "We’re always good bro. Insanely toxic time and culture. On a positive note tell your mama I said hi!!" with a smiley face emoji and a fist bump emoji.

It is worth noting that Johnson's Twitter account's banner image is still promoting Black Adam...

"UNFOLLOWING" CONFUSION IS COMMON IN FANDOM

Fandom-led drama about people "unfollowing" each other on social media is common, and it is often misunderstood. While people unfollowing accounts that they were formerly associated with typically does have some meaning to it (like celebrities who were dating unfollow each other when they break up), fans rarely notice whether the celebrity in question was actually following the account in the first place when the claims are made.

This happens in the world of sports all of the time, like when reports went out that New York Yankee star player Aaron Judge had unfollowed the Yankees on Instagram after the season ended and he became a free agent. Like Johnson, though, Judge had never followed the Yankees in the first place.
