With Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw wrapping principal photography over the weekend and Fast & Furious 9 preparing to begin filming next month, Dwayne Johnson has addressed whether his character, Luke Hobbs will return for the next main installment of the franchise.
While promoting his latest film, Fighting with My Family, at the Sundance Film Festival, Johnson was asked about his character's future in the high-octane franchise.
"As of now, we're not in Fast 9 because they're getting ready to start shooting," confirmed Johnson in an interview with MTV. "But who with knows with Fast 10 and down the road. Because, look, at the end of the day, the truth is there's unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It's unfinished."
Star Vin Diesel announced over the weekend that principal photography on Fast & Furious 9 was scheduled to begin filming in London next month. While Hobbs & Shaw was in pre-production this past April, Johnson had mentioned he was unsure he would appear in the upcoming sequel due to professional differences with Diesel that arose during the production of the franchise's eighth installment, 2017's The Fate of the Furious.
Directed by David Leitch from a script by Chris Morgan, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzalez and Roman Reigns. It is scheduled to be released on August 2.
