Black Adam star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson affirms that his Teth-Adam shares the powers of Superman minus the Man of Steel's morals.

On the actor's Instagram, Johnson shared a recent article from Vanity Fair, writing, "Pound for pound, [Black Adam] has the powers of Superman -- but has become a god who has zero mercy in the DC Universe." Speaking to the publication, he explains how the two DC characters differ in ability and why Black Adam is the more "ruthless" combatant.

Black Adam's Powers vs. Superman, Explained

Though Black Adam shares a similar level of invulnerability and strength to the Superman, his superpowers are more closely related to the hero Shazam, his nemesis in comics. While the Man of Steel possesses both heat and x-ray vision, freeze breath and other abilities, Black Adam is powered by magic and capable of channeling massive lightning blasts from the sky and within himself. Yet, a key difference between the two, as pointed out by Johnson, is that "Superman won't kill anybody."

"There's a code [Superman] lives by and he honors," the actor continued. "Black Adam has a unique code of ethics too. He will not hesitate -- and I like to have a little fun when I'm explaining this -- to rip somebody in half." He painted a more vivid picture by explaining, "Literally, he'll grab someone by the neck and by the thigh and then rip them up, tear them apart."

Will Black Adam Fight Shazam or Superman?

Johnson previously cited Black Adam's more brutal nature as a reason to keep him out of the first Shazam! movie that released in 2019. The original script for the film included both the hero and villain, but Johnson disagreed with this choice. "I fought hard for both characters [plus the Justice Society of America] to have their own stand alone films for the fans to enjoy," the actor said online. "And protect Black Adam's ruthless [and] extremely violent tone as we built out [the DC Extended Universe]."

The rating for Black Adam has not been revealed as of writing, and whether fans will witness Johnson's antihero rip anyone in half or other mature violence on theater screens remains to be seen. Johnson has spoken on fans seeing Black Adam fight Superman one day though, and mentioned why Adam will have the advantage if the match up does happen. He cited, "Superman's greatest weakness is magic, and one of Black Adam's greatest superpowers is magic." Magic is one of Superman's failings, but another primary weakness for the DC hero is Kryptonite, a substance from the planet Krypton that is lethal to Superman.

Will There Be a Superman for the Rock's Black Adam to Fight?

Also unclear is if actor Henry Cavill will return to the DCEU as Superman. Cavill was rumored to make an appearance at Warner Bros.' San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel alongside Johnson and the stars of both Black Adam and the Shazam! sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but the actor never showed. Actor Zachary Levi will be back to portray Shazam! in Fury of the Gods though, should his hero meet Johnson's Black Adam one day on screen.

Aside from Johnson, Black Adam stars Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, all of whom are members of the Justice Society of America. The film strikes theaters on Oct. 21, 2022.
